History of the Houstonian Big Band

The HOUSTONIAN BIG BAND (HBB) originated in 1977 and has played continuously in and around Houston and Southeast Texas (USA). The HBB features an experienced conductor leading a traditional big band structure. The band has 4-5 saxophones/clarinets/flute, 4-6 trumpets & trombones, drums, bass, piano, and male/female vocalists.

The band has performed for U.S. Presidents, senators, alumni associations, weddings, private parties, benefit dinners/galas, dance clubs, trade shows, restaurants, social clubs and other special occasions.

A large part of the band’s musical repertoire is big band arrangements from the 30’s to 50’s. In addition, many more modern songs and crowd favorites have been added to the band’s library. But the big band style has been maintained as the centerpiece of our tradition and performances.

The band has over 400 selections of big band/swing music, and will play for private parties, weddings and other special functions.
